When a person gets affected by hemorrhoids, the best thing apart from visiting a doctor is to also see if there are any available methods to reduce the pain also called temporary hemorrhoid remedy. There are various temporary hemorrhoid remedies available and they can be applied with equal efficiency though they do not provide any long term cures as such. The most effective hemorrhoid remedy that is applied in swollen hemorrhoids is hydrotherapy, where the place is washed and then patted with a cold water compress to mitigate the pain as much as possible. Generally, this provides instant relief but every morning with the pressure applied once again at the rectal region, the swellings increase substantially once again.

Another temporary hemorrhoid remedy is the cold compress. The patient is required to sit upright and a cold compress is applied against the affected area for some time. This is repeated over a period of time as much as possible. The cold compress relaxes the area around the anal opening and gives some symptomatic relief for some time so this seems to be a good hemorrhoid remedy. Over a period of time however, these relief measures disappear and the patient once again feels the pain.

These temporary measures are not very effective and would require the patient to sit quiet till the measures are applied. However, once the application is over, the pain returns. There are some pain relieving gels that can be applied in the affected area for a prolonged effect in relieving the pain, but again these painkillers do nothing more than soothing the area around the anal opening. Once the soothing effect falls off, the pain returns back. What is therefore necessary as an effective hemorrhoid remedy is the use of proper medication and a systematic therapy that deals with the overall health of the patient. While a change in the food habits and food pattern is extremely important, simultaneously it has to be seen that the patient is also regularly on the medicines and uses the lubricating gel every time bowel movements are anticipate. Most important of all, if must be borne in mind that temporary hemorrhoid remedy measures do not work long term. These measures provide temporary relief and that too for a few minutes or so. The patient is advised not to use a hard chair or a hard surface for sitting, the patient is also advised to overstretch himself or herself while on work, stressful work is strictly forbidden and consumption of alcohol or smoking is also prohibited.
